Pulmonary Medicine: Pulmonary medicine, also known as respiratory medicine, is the medical specialty focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the lungs and respiratory system, including conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and pulmonary fibrosis.

Respiratory Disorders: Medical conditions that impair the normal function of the respiratory system, including the lungs, airways, and breathing muscles, leading to difficulties in breathing, oxygen exchange, or ventilation. Common examples include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and pulmonary fibrosis.

Lung Function Tests: Medical assessments that measure how well the lungs work, including the volume of air inhaled and exhaled, airflow rates, and the efficiency of gas exchange. These tests help diagnose respiratory conditions, monitor disease progression, and evaluate treatment effectiveness.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Pulmonary Rehabilitation: A comprehensive, multidisciplinary program designed for individuals with chronic respiratory diseases, aiming to improve physical conditioning, reduce symptoms such as breathlessness, enhance quality of life, and promote long-term adherence to healthy behaviors through exercise training, education, and psychological support.

Thoracic Medicine: Thoracic medicine is the branch of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases affecting the organs and structures within the chest, particularly the lungs, pleura, and respiratory tract. It encompasses conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis, and lung cancer.

Airway Diseases: Medical conditions that affect the air passages (trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles), causing obstruction, inflammation, or narrowing, which leads to difficulty in breathing. Common examples include asthma, chronic bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Pulmonary Pharmacology: The branch of pharmacology that studies drugs affecting the respiratory system, including their mechanisms, therapeutic effects, side effects, and use in treating pulmonary diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary hypertension.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): A progressive lung disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation, chronic inflammation of the airways, and symptoms such as shortness of breath, chronic cough, and sputum production. It commonly results from long-term exposure to harmful particles or gases, most often from cigarette smoking.

Asthma Management: A systematic approach to control and prevent asthma symptoms through medication (such as inhaled corticosteroids and bronchodilators), avoidance of triggers, regular monitoring of lung function, patient education, and creating an individualized action plan to reduce exacerbations and improve quality of life.

Bronchiectasis: A chronic respiratory condition characterized by permanent dilation and damage of the bronchi, leading to persistent cough, excessive sputum production, and recurrent lung infections.
